Fees for vehicle owner tracing
Our fees range from £50 to £200 per trace, inclusive of VAT. We confirm the fee to you in writing after your request has been accepted and before any work starts. You will not be charged for a request that we decline.
Our pricing is a range because the work varies. We do not give an estimate until your request has been screened, because we cannot price a request that we may decline.
What decides the fee
The fee depends on the work that your request needs.
- The purpose and the evidence needed. A request supported by a police reference and clear evidence takes less screening than one that needs further enquiry.
- The information you can give us. A full registration number, vehicle details and an exact incident date make a trace more straightforward.
- Keeper at a past date. A trace for the keeper on a date in the past needs more checking than a trace of the current keeper.
- Complexity. Where a vehicle has changed hands, has been exported or cannot be matched on first enquiry, further work is needed.
- The number of vehicles. Each vehicle is a separate trace.
VAT
All fees stated on this website include VAT at the current rate. The range of £50 to £200 is the VAT-inclusive price. If VAT changes, the VAT-inclusive price changes with it, and we will confirm the VAT amount in writing.
When you pay
We ask for payment after the request has been accepted and the fee confirmed, and before the work starts. If we decline your request at screening, nothing is payable.
What happens if there is no result
A trace does not always identify a keeper. A vehicle may have been exported, the registration may have been misread, or the information we are able to use may not support a reliable result.
If we carry out an accepted trace and cannot identify the registered keeper, or cannot support the result, you pay nothing and any payment is refunded.
If a result is released and you believe it is wrong, tell us promptly. We will review it and tell you what we find.
What the fee does not include
- The cost of any court, insurer or solicitor work that follows a trace.
- The cost of correspondence you send to the keeper.
- Any DVLA fee, if you apply to the DVLA yourself. See the DVLA V888 page.
Refunds
If a refund is due under the terms above, we will pay it to the method of payment you used. See the refund terms in your written confirmation.
No guarantee of a result
We do not guarantee that a trace will identify a keeper. We do guarantee that every request is screened and that results are released only to verified requesters.
Confirmation of the fee
When we accept your request, we send you a written confirmation. It states the fee, that VAT is included, what the fee covers, when payment is due and what happens if there is no result. No work starts until you have received that confirmation and have agreed to it.
If you are unhappy with the service
If you have a complaint about a fee or about the service, write to [email protected]. We will acknowledge it promptly and reply in writing.
